Alumide is a powder material consisting of a mixture of PA12 and aluminium.
The PA12 will share in the printing process fused and binds the aluminium powder.
The 50% share of aluminium are special features such as example a heat resistance this plastic up to 170 ° C and a very high breaking strength.
Also Alumide is very metallic and be cold or warm on skin contact.
Colored Alumide will also have a very beautiful look.
Alumide components are not calculated in cc. This would be not fair to this material.
Instead, it is a mixed calculation of the basic dimensions (length, width, height), the required orientation, capacity (cm³) of construction, etc. calculated.
The formula for this beyond the scope here. Fortunately there is our online price tool. This does the work for you.
Alumide is always used if the components are to be especially resistant and heat resistant. Even for very complex shapes to offer this material, thereby not supporting material must be used.
Alumide are often used when a plastic is needed which must be particularly heat-resistant or have a high stiffness without becoming brittle.
Alumide is moulded in the SLS. Alumide is moulded in the SLS. This powder-based techniques has helped to bring 3D printing where it currently is.
This method cost extremely robust components can produce injection molded parts in no way inferior.
SLS means Selectives laser sintering and referred to the partial melting of powder materials by means of a laser.
This, The exposure parameters can be manipulated to produce different properties.
The procedure:
Your model is broken down at the computer in layers of 0.12 mm and sent to the machine.
Now, a tank is filled with your desired equipment. A 0, 12mm-thick layer over the entire width is applied to a pressure bed.
The inner part of the machine is heated to about 100 ° C. A laser lit the powder and increases the temperature at this point for a fraction of a second above the melting point of the material.
At this point the material becomes short liquid and joins. All surfaces that belong to your part are produced in this layer.
Now the build platform is lowered and a new layer. This repeated itself until your component is finished. The not molten powder surrounds your component and in this period also serves as a support structure.
This allows the printing of 'floating' components (approximately 2 rings that do not touch during printing, but are connected). Your component is now liberated from the powder and blow out any residue.
As an additional step, is irradiated with Fabb-It's your part sand to ensure that all powder residues are gone, and to improve the surface once again.

The surface of your model is determined by the technology and the chosen material. Therefore, we offer several post-processing steps. This affects the cost but also the quality of your model.
The natural surface of Alumide is perfect if you want your model just as functional or demonstration prototype. So you get the material and procedures based on the surface see there are nothing else than to print your part, shine and send it to you.

Polishing at Alumide is a special process. Your component is placed in a drum with small stones. This compact the surface by vibration of the drum until your part is smooth.
The granular surface is maintained, however, that is no longer feeling.
What is to be observed on polished models:
Color gives you to get your component in color at Alumide the opportunity.
The coloring process is relatively simple. Dour component is given in a staining solution and heated, thus the color penetrates into your component.
It is about a layer thickness of 0,2 - 0,3 mm dyed. This means your component is not susceptible to scratching.
The color here used is resistant to chemicals and heat.
Colouring is offered in the standard colors black, gray, purple, blue, green, orange, red and yellow. Special colours on request.
With Coloring and polish you can book a extreme bargain price and raise the appearance of your component 2 ranges of services.
Alumide which was stained and polished, has a very high surface quality and feels very smooth.
You are saving the handling fee of 3€ for the polishing and in addition 0.17€ / cm³.0.17 / cm³.
This makes for a component of 50 cm³, a savings of more than 40% compared to the individually booked service.
Soft Touch is a special type of paint. The surface feels after painting very soft and smooth.
SLS parts with soft touch are by far the closest thing surface feel and appearance terms of injection molded parts.
The parts are handmade honed, primed and painted what leads to a perfect surface without visible stage of construction.
you won't believe the product was printed here.
Of course, you can also paint models from Alumide 3D.
Here, the quality and RAL color can be selected. The base version of the painting is a simple "spray paint".
This means that your component is easily sanded and then painted. Stage of construction, and the similar are still easy to see.
The highest quality is the quality in premium (enamel). This "polishing" must be booked with.
Your part is sanded, polished, filled, and painted.
Alumide parts can also make a wonderful coating.
For this purpose, your model is sanded, and then coated with your desired material. In this case, a coating with Gold or silver is possible.
