As the only professional 3D printing service worldwide, we have the pressure in this special material in the FDM process.
Sandstone is a great material for example. Architectural models should have a "stone" surface, but still have to be stable.
Sandstone has the advantage to remain despite the plaster share flexible and resilient over plaster, composite, or full color.
This is achieved from the combination of gypsum powder and nylon material.


Advantages & disadvantages

Advantages

  • Color and surface are reminiscent of sandstone (Rough)
  • Construction layers are almost impossible to detect.
  • Very good haptic feel.
  • Remains resilient and flexible
  • Almost free "warping" (from distortion)

Disadvantages

  • Low resolution by FDM pressure
  • No technical data available
  • Not abrasion resistant (mechanical stress)
  • Water taking on

Typical usage

Sandstone is used whenever a component should have a sand-like interface and feel.
It is particularly popular for making architectural models.
Sandstone can be very well grind up and prints almost without visible stage of construction.


Technology

Sandstone is produced in the so-called FDM procedure.
FDM is spelled out "Fused deposition modeling".
FDM is one of the simpler procedures of 3D printing.Machined components are
visible layers (coatings) up. The advantage of this technology is the pressure in a
high variation of materials and the direct use of technical
Plastics. The material is genuinely applied and thus differs
to most other procedures, with materials with approximate work properties

FDM is not appropriate for small parts, because they overheat.

The procedure:
The model is broken down into layers of 0.1 0.2 mm.
Now, a plastic wire is pressed through a heating nozzle and a viscous

The surface of your part is determined by the technology and the chosen material. Therefore, we offer several post-processing steps. This affects the cost but also the quality of a model.

The natural surface of the sandstone is perfect if you want your model just as functional or demonstration prototype. So you'll be able to see the material and method using the surface as we do nothing more than to print your part to remove the insulators and ship it to you.

Grinding and sandblasting (Polishing)


.Polished sandstone models have no high-gloss finish. You have a slightly rough but very smoothed surface.
All parts are sanded by hand and then sandblasted. For this reason, it may be that your part is subsequently rejected if it is not to edit by hand.

What is to be observed on polished models:

  • Models can only be polished from a minimum dimensions of 10x10x10 mm.
  • Only accessible by hand areas are polished.
  • Post processing will take on all surfaces around 0.2 mm materail. Plan something extra wall thickness.
  • Small details can disappear during this process.
  • The polishing service requires 2 extra Working days to the indicated delivery time.
  • Price: Polishing costs 30% of the part price as extra charge.

Painted models

Of course, you can also paint 3D models from sandstone.
Here, the quality and RAL color can be selected. The basic version of the painting is a simple "spray paint"..
This means that is your part lightly sanded and then painted. Construction stages and the similar are still easily recognizable..
The highest quality is the quality in premium (car paint). This "Polishing" must be booked with. This "Polishing" must be booked with.
Your part is sanded, polished, filled, wet sanded and painted.
